Siouxsie and the Banshees rose out of the punk movement that Pop inspired and paid tribute to him with this cover, off of their 1987 covers album Through The Looking Glass. Siouxsie and the Banshees – The Passenger (Iggy Pop cover) Her cover sounds remarkably fresh for an artist so associated with the early ’80s, although she plays down the stalker-like foreboding of the original. Rescued from becoming a cultural punchline by friend David Bowie, Pop has enjoyed a successful solo career ever since, including a mid-’90s revival spurred by the inclusion of several songs in the soundtrack to the movie Trainspotting. After three albums, Pop’s extreme drug abuse led to the demise of the band and a stint at an L.A. ethic of mid-’60s garage rock with a nihilistic attitude and Jim Morrison-inspired performance antics.

There are unconfirmed stories that before naming his band The Stooges, Iggy called Moe Howard of The Three Stooges to ask for his blessing. Singer Jim Morrison angered the crowd and made Iggy feel that if Morrison could be a rock star, he could do it too.ġ0.

Pop was inspired to become a professional musician after he saw The Doors live. Among Iggy’s other early stage gimmicks were rolling around in broken glass, exposing himself to the crowd and vomiting on stage.ĩ. Iggy was the first performer to do a stage dive. Since they were the only two people without eyebrows, Iggy was called Iggy Pop, because it looked like he was related to Jimmy.ħ. Jimmy lost all his hair, including his eyebrows, which motivated Iggy to shave his eyebrows.
Iggy got the “Pop” part of his stage name from his resemblance to his friend Jimmy Pop. In high school, Iggy was in a band called The Iguanas, which led to the birth of his nickname.Ħ.
